Edward James

Edward has been with the office since March, 2012 and has significant experience across a wide range of civil and commercial law related litigations in the High Court of Madras, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Debt recovery tribunals, labour courts and consumer dispute redressal forum. He has also worked on arbitration matters across various sectors and was appointed as an advocate commissioner by the Chennai Consumer Forum in a construction related dispute.

In addition, Edward has also advised a number of clients on various corporate and employment law matters. He has been involved in numerous matters pertaining to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and collaborations and has worked on transactions across sectors such as auto components, services, pharmaceuticals and real estate. He has previously worked under the tutelage of Mr. Justice Thanikachalam (Retd.) and Mr. Justice Sampath Kumar (Retd.) of the Madras High Court as a judicial clerk.

His work experience before various courts includes:

• Representing Small Industries Development Bank of India against a foreign investor in relation to a shareholder dispute, before the High Court of Madras and in arbitral proceedings in Chennai.
• Representing Pfizer Healthcare India Private Limited in disputes with its contract workmen across various courts.
• Representing and defending SPI Cinemas Private Limited in proceedings before the Madras High Court and the City Civil Court.
• Representing Lactalis in actions pertaining to trademark infringement, before the High Court of Madras.
• Representing ADP Solutions Private Limited in relation to employment related disputes before the Madras High Court and before the labour courts.
• Representing BASF Catalysts India Private Limited in relation to proceedings arising from the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, before the Madras High Court.
• Representing Alcatel Submarine Networks UK Limited in writ proceedings before the Madras High Court.
• Representing Standard Chartered Bank and Bank of Baroda in proceedings before the Madras High Court, and Debts Recovery Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal, Chennai.
• Representing Union Bank of India in writ petitions before the Madras High Court challenging their promotion and transfer process.
• Representing Medshop Drugs LLC in relation to execution of foreign decrees before the Madras High Court.
• Representing various companies including Rentokil India Private Limited , Taj Madras Flight Kitchen Private Limited , Madura Micro Finance Limited and Presidio Solutions Private Limited, in schemes of amalgamation/ arrangement before the National Company Law Tribunal, Chennai.

His work experience on the transactional side includes:

• Advising the promoters of Butterfly Appliances in relation to their sale of up to 55% of their shareholding in Butterfly Appliances to Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited.
• Advising Tube Investments of India Limited on its joint venture for commencement of  Contract Development and Manufacturing Operations business.
• Advising Mahaveer Finance India Limited on its fund raise from First Bridge India Growth Fund.
• Advising Qube Cinemas on its acquisition of a digital cinema technology company.
• Advising Kauvery Hospitals on its divestment of a joint venture.
• Advising Redintgon (India) Limited on its divestment of Ensure Support Services.
• Advising SDB Select Services Private Limited on their restructuring.
